Once the fault is removed the supply will resume normal operation without having to cycle the power as you would do with many latching protection circuits. While in hiccup mode, usually the supply will repeatedly turn off and (briefly) on again until the overcurrent condition is no longer present. The advantage to Hiccup Mode or Hiccup protection is that when an output overcurrent or short is detected the driver/supply will enter into “Hiccup Mode” and will stay in this mode protecting the supply until the fault is removed. Hiccup mode is a form of over current protection that is available in certain power supplies and LED Drivers.
